What Do I Avoid After Lip Filler?

You just got your lips done—congrats! Whether it’s your first treatment or a routine refresh, your post-filler care will determine how smooth, soft, and natural your final results look. Here’s your expert guide on what to avoid after lip filler (and what to do instead) for a flawless, even heal.

Don’t touch, press, or massage your lips.
Your new filler needs time to settle. Touching, pressing, or massaging too soon can cause the product to shift or create uneven texture.
Instead, please keep your hands off the area for at least 48 hours and avoid activities that put pressure on it, such as using straws, kissing, or wearing tight-fitting face masks.
Avoid heat and extreme temperatures.
Hot yoga, steam rooms, and saunas can increase swelling and redness. Similarly, applying ice directly to the lips can irritate your skin.
Instead, use a cool compress (never ice-cold), wrapped in a clean cloth, to gently reduce swelling.
Skip alcohol and salty foods for 24 hours.

Alcohol thins your blood, increasing bruising risk, while salty snacks can lead to extra puffiness.
Instead: Stay hydrated with plenty of water or coconut water—hydration helps your filler settle beautifully and keeps your lips supple.
Take a break from workouts.
We love a good sweat session, but not right after filler. Elevated heart rate and blood pressure can worsen bruising and delay healing.
Instead: Give your body 24–48 hours to rest. Think of it as your self-care weekend: Netflix, hydrating, and letting your lips recover.
Hold off on makeup and lip products.
For at least 24 hours, skip lipstick, gloss, and even tinted balms. Bacteria from applicators can lead to irritation or infection.

Instead: Keep lips clean and lightly moisturized with a sterile, fragrance-free ointment like Aquaphor or SkinCeuticals Hydrabalm.
Avoid flying for a few days.
Changes in air pressure during flights can make swelling worse. If possible, wait 3–5 days before traveling after your appointment.
Sleep elevated.
Try to sleep on your back with your head slightly elevated. It helps reduce swelling and prevents pressure on one side of your lips.
When to Call Your Injector
Mild tenderness and swelling are normal for the first few days. But if you experience severe pain, white patches, or prolonged firmness, contact your injector immediately.
